Engine Repair: common questions

Is a rattle on cold start serious?

On many European engines a short rattle at start-up can indicate timing chain or tensioner wear. Get it checked early — a failed chain can cause major engine damage.

What causes diesel DPF problems?

Mostly short city trips that never let the filter regenerate. We can clean or force-regenerate the DPF and advise on driving patterns to prevent it.
